Graciela Raga
Graciela Raga (PhD Atmospheric Sciences, 1989, University of Washington; Licenciatura, 1983, Universidad de Buenos Aires) is a senior scientist at the Atmospheric Sciences Centre at UNAM. Her research covers a broad range of topics from urban pollution, specially black carbon particles, to aerosol-cloud interactions, cloud microphysics and dynamics, mesoscale, and climate, in particular the role of short-lived climate pollutants. Her research has been reported in 88 articles in the reviewed literature as was a several book chapters. She is also a professor at UNAM, and has supervised 15 graduate- and 2 undergraduate-level theses, as well as 7 postdoctoral associates.
Over the years she has been part of numerous international commissions, such as the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), the International Atmospheric Chemistry (IGAC) program and the International Commission on Clouds and Precipitation (ICCP). Currently she serves in the Scientific Advisory Panel of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), the Methane Initiative and the Regional Steering Committee of the WMO Pan American Sand and Dust Storm Warning Advisory and Assessment System. She has served as Chief Editor of Atmosfera and is currently an Associate Editor of PeerJ in the Environmental Sciences area.
She was a Lead Author of Working Group 1 (The Physical Basis) in the Fourth Assessment Report of the International Panel for Climate Change (IPCC), which was awarded the Nobel Peace in 2007. She is a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and has received national and international awards such as the Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz in Mexico and the RAICES award in International Cooperation by the government of Argentina. She participated as Co-Chair of the recently concluded Integrated Assessment of Shor-Lived Climate Pollutants in Latin America and the Caribbean, leading a team of international scientists in the first comprehensive assessment for the region, under the sponsorship of the CCAC and UN Environment. She is currently working on a book on Andean pollution in a changing world.
